Sault Ste. Marie is a Premier 4-season Mountain Biking Destination with Over 60km of MTB Trails

July 10, 2025 - Sault “Soo” Ste. Marie, Northern Ontario’s third biggest city, boasts over 60 kilometres of the best mountain bike trails only a short ride from downtown at Hiawatha Highlands.

The fabulous network includes the recently constructed enduro and cross-country 14km Farmer Lake trail that takes you through the stunning Canadian Shield.

Or take in the popular Crystal System that features 17km of mostly new, machine-built flow trails. The system includes some of the best in Ontario, including one of the longest continuous downhill trails in the province — Soonami.

Another local favourite is the 15km Red Pine heritage system, which features a variety of classic hand-built single-track trails from intermediate to advanced routes.

The Pinder network features generally flat terrain that is great for beginners and families for fun flowy trails that kids will love to explore.

There are also many bike-friendly hotels and countless great spots to refuel and enjoy tasty Italian, Asian, Indigenous and British delights along with refreshing beverages after a long day in the saddle.

There are also many great cycling events like the Salty Marie Trails Fest, July 25-27, that celebrates all things “trail”.

The city also boasts one of the largest fat-bike networks in Canada, with over 70km of groomed trails at Crimson Ridge and Hiawatha Highlands.
