June 18, 2024 - Home to fabulous trails for road, gravel, and mountain biking, Orillia and Lake Country Region is just 90 minutes north of Toronto and is one of Ontario’s most picturesque areas.
Including the City of Orillia, Rama First Nation, and the Townships of Severn and Oro-Medonte the region features the stunning recreational waters of Lake Simcoe, Lake Couchiching and the Trent-Severn Waterway.
With its historic downtown Orillia has something for every cyclist whether you’re looking for flat and beginner-friendly routes, or hilly and challenging trails. The Lightfoot Trail Network, named after folk legend and Orillia native Gordon Lightfoot, connects to all four corners of the city that’s a perfect basecamp with plenty of cycling-friendly accommodations.
The city’s Millennium Trail is a nine-kilometre paved route that’s part of the Trans Canada Trail and follows the spectacular shorelines of Lake Couchiching. The route connects to the Uhthoff Trail (22km) in Severn Township to the northwest if you’d like to venture outside city limits to the village of Coldwater.
For more robust riding, explore the 160km Simcoe County Loop Trail in a single-day or multi-day tour. Another great route is the 28km Oro-Medonte Rail Trail linking the cities of Barrie and Orillia where you can cool off at some of the cleanest waterfronts on Lake Simcoe.
At Horseshoe Bike Park, enjoy 30km of cross-country mountain bike trails in the Copeland Forest from beginner to advanced, or check out Hardwood Ski and Bike with 34km of rolling double-track trails, along with 50km of challenging single-track trails through beautiful hardwood and pine forests.
For memorable cycling adventures and a wide array of fabulous outdoor activities year-round, including water sports, relaxing spas or eco-retreats, Orillia & Lake Country is a great getaway that’s ready to welcome you.
