July 15, 2026 - Sault “Soo” Ste. Marie is fast becoming a premier four-season mountain biking destination. Hiawatha Highlands, boasting over 60 kilometres of the best mountain bike trails, is only a short ride from downtown.

Enjoy riding through the stunning Canadian Shield on the recently constructed enduro and cross-country 14km Farmer Lake trail with some black runs, and flow and jump lines. Try Climb to Canyon, a technical trail to a superb lookout before arriving at beautiful Farmer Lake.

Another local favourite is the 15km Red Pine heritage system, which features a variety of classic hand-built single-track trails from intermediate to advanced routes. Pinder, a green run trail system that offers 8km of single track through beautiful forests is great for beginners and families.

The popular Crystal System features 17km welcome intermediate to advanced riders, along with families who can also enjoy the system that includes some of the best in Ontario, including one of the longest continuous downhill trails in the province — Soonami.

Last year also saw the addition of a new bridge at Wishart Park and a connector trail linking the Hiawatha trail system with the downtown Hub Trail, which means riders can now experience a full day on the trails right from their doorstep or hotel room.

There are also many bike-friendly hotels as well, plus there are countless great spots to refuel and enjoy a refreshing beverage after a long day in the saddle including a number of local breweries that offer tasting rooms.

Don’t miss the 2026 Canadian MTB XCM Championships, a new national event coming to the Soo for the first time on September 5th. Crank the Shield is also back in 2026 – back and bigger than ever from August 21-23 and features some of the best enduro and flow trails in the province.

The city also boasts one of the largest fat-bike networks in Canada, with over 70km of groomed trails at Crimson Ridge and Hiawatha Highlands.
