June 13, 2024 - (Bologna, Italy) The third annual Cycling Tourism Show “Fiera del Cicloturismo” was held in Bologna, Italy from April 7-9 and saw 15,000 visitors including 121 exhibitors from 11 countries, and 75 media representatives from Italy and abroad reports organizer, Bikenomist.
With over 54 speakers and 50 workshops, approximately 49% of attendees were from Emilia Romagna, the event’s main sponsor. In addition a total of 12% of visitors came from Lombardy, 11% from Veneto, and the rest came from all over Italy and abroad including 24% returning visitors.
The event also included the 4th edition of the “Traveling by Bicycle 2024” Report, produced by ISNART and Legambiente in collaboration with Bikenomist and was presented on Friday, April 5, at the Cycle Tourism Forum within the Bologna Bicycle Tourism Show. The Forum’s conference, training and networking saw 1000+ operators and buyers.
Cycling tourism is on the rise in Italy with a direct economic impact estimated at more than 5.5 billion euros as of 2023, up 35% over 2022 and 19% over 2019 (4.6 billion). It’s estimated that more than 56 million bicycle tourism visits occured in 2023 – 6.7% of the total visits recorded in Italy.
In addition, the Cycling Tourism Show featured awards for films, reporting and more; hosted 200 kids who joined the programme for the safe use of bikes; and the event provided parking for 2,800 bicycles, the biggest temporary cycling parking facility in Italy.
