June 11, 2024 - In view of the historic departure of the Grand Boucle from Italy on the upcoming 29th of June, a special “Rock Train” has been painted yellow to honour the Tour, Emilia-Romagna, and three legends of Italian cycling!
The Grand Depart of the Tour de France is approaching at full speed, and for the first time, it will start from Italy, crossing Emilia-Romagna from South to North: an opportunity for the region to connect with a world-renowned sporting event, which our region has chosen to honour with a special train featuring a dedicated livery.
This train will carry the colours and brand of this significant event on tracks throughout the region and beyond: from Marche to Piedmont and from Veneto to Lombardy. Created with the technical support of Trenitalia TPER, the train is already in motion and will continue to run until the end of the Tour de France.
The yellow sides of the train also feature the symbols of the cities where the Italian stages of the Tour start and finish, as well as illustrative images of the three great Italian cycling champions Gino Bartali, Marco Pantani, and Fausto Coppi, whom the first three Emilia-Romagna stages of the Grand Depart are dedicated.
The much-anticipated start of the Grand Boucle, which the entire host community from Florence to Turin is promoting, will bring over 1.5 million people to the roads of Emilia-Romagna alone during its stages, with the cities of arrival and departure being Rimini, Cesenatico, Bologna, and Piacenza. This event is expected to generate over 29 million euros in economic impact and an estimated 150,000 tourist visits.
